Heat Haze
When using V-Ray as the renderer Phoenix FD can simulate heat haze or mirage effects. In this example the road is a defined as a heat source, and Phoenix FD simulates the movement of the hot air rising from the asphalt surface. By enabling the V-Ray specific heat haze rendering option V-Ray will trace the refractions that occur in the hot air.

Adaptive Grid size
By enabling the Adaptive Grid feature Phoenix FD can dynamically adjust the simulation grid size as needed.
As the two torches rotate the grid is enlarged dynamically to make room for the trailing flames and smoke. (click to enlarge)
Conclusion
This was a sneak peek at just a few of the features of the upcoming Phoenix FD. There are several interesting features that we unfortunately can't show you yet, but stay tuned for more information as Phoenix FD gets closer to release.
