Topic: Help with shadows from skylight
posted by joelgomez1975

I am trying to render an interior scene lighted by mostly skylight and a little sunlight. My concern is that some furniture seems to float in space cause of the lack of shadows on the floor, particuallrly the chairs with thinner/smaller legs. i heard that increasing the distance threshold to the value 1 should help. i still did not get the desired result, any help would be appreciated. thanks.
Follow-ups
A: You will need a high Max rate (-1 or 0 or 1) in order to get sharp shadows. Either that, or place VRay lights at your windows.
Q: I've heard a few of you mentioning this technique of placing lights at each window. This reminds me of lightscape and its wizard but I'm just wondering how to produce light from the angle that the sun is at.
A: Make the VRay lights invisible and put a directional or a spot light for the sun. Invisible VRay lights will let other lights through.
