Topic: Shadows: Transparencies and color
posted by Morgul2000

Mostof the time i work with the standard lights and raytraced shadows.
Can someone explain what the "transparent" checkbox is for in the shadow options?
When i check this option the shadows from glas objects look worse then without transparent shadows.
How can i tint shadows (light through a colored glas) and is it possible to have the thickness of the glass have influence on the shadow density?
Follow-ups
A: When "transparent" is checked, the light will cast properly colored shadows from transparent objects, but you will not be able to use the Shadow Color and Density parameters of the light; when "transparent" is off, shadows from transparent objects will always be a shade of grey, but Shadow Color and Density will work.
You can tint shadows either by changing the Filter color of a Standard material (in the Extended parameters rollout), or by using a VRay material with "Affect shadows" turned on, in which case you can also use the Fog color to modify the shadow based on object thickness.
