Topic: An instance for Instances (redundant)
posted by J_Bug
archived on 22.4.2003
When I'm creating a Irradiance map for a large scene the page file creaps up untill its' full, then it renders just the background.
-is this a problem that I can get around with correct settings?
-or do I have have to restart the incremental add at the point it crashed? (This is what I'm doing at the moment to get around the problem)
Follow-ups
Q: How large is that sene?
A: the max file is 13 meg. 660,000 faces, 1885 objects. I have a lot of instanced objects, what is the expanation for the replicate and instanciate setting?
A: The default setting "Replicate" for instanced objects will simply copy the geometry of those objects as many times as there are copies, thus taking quite a lot of RAM, but raytracing will be faster. The "Instanciate" option on the other hand, keeps only one copy of an object's geometry. If you have lots of instanced objects, it's best to use the "Instanciate" option.
