Topic: Hidden feature: Enabling the VRay VFB Render History
posted by Torgeir Holm
archived on 6.5.2008
VRay has a hidden render history feature:
The history window seen above is opened by clicking the new H button that appers in the bottom of the VRay VFB after you enable this feature. Every time you save a render from the history dialog it will be added to the list. Images are stored as .vrimg files and include all render elements passes. Double clicking a thumbnail will open the image from the history in the VRay VFB. You need to set the location for the history files, and the file size limit in the options dialog. Older files are removed if you exceed the limit.
WARNING: This feature is not enabled by default because it is not fully developed. Enabling the render history is done at your own risk as there could be bugs present.
To enable the feature you need to add a new system environment variable to Windows.
How to do this in Windows XP:
- Click on Start
- Right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties
- Select the Advanced Tab
- Click on the Environment Variables button
- Under System click the New button
- Create a new variable called VRAY_VFB_HISTORY and set the value to 1
- Click OK and close the windows
- Start 3ds Max
How to do this in Windows Vista:
- Click on Start
- Right click on the Computer text and select Properties
- Click the Advanced System Settings text on the left
- Click on the Environment Variables button
- Under System click the New button
- Create a new variable called VRAY_VFB_HISTORY and set the value to 1
